I fear
the years
in the lines
on my skin
as forty nears
the evidence clears
I am old
and what
is to show
from those years
just marks on skin
or marks on lives
or am I merely
marking time
’til closing of
the daily
grind

the evidence clears

and what

Only forty? That’s young to me.

Yeah I know, not really old, but there’s something about that number that makes you stop and think!

You should worry. I wish I was forty again.

Wow just “nearly forty” you young thing! You seem to still be full of youth and vigor in your words and creativity! Time is always moving forward – youth we keep in our hearts.

Yes I think there is a bit of life left in me yet, just this coming birthday makes me ponder what I have done with these years …

You have lived your life and shaped the lives of people around you and close to you. And you have let out little vibrations of Suzy across the internet via your blogs (poems and photos).

I will tell you while the lines do increase, the age is so much sweeter. Trust me…

Thanks Audra, as usual you get it π It’s just a number really and will make little difference, but it does make me take stock and ponder

Life begins at 40 or rather you stop caring about a whole lot of things that seemed important and just weren’t. Happy birthday for a 40pluser π

That’s true, there are many things that seemed important in my 20s and 30s that now have faded. Good to look at it in a positive way π

I honestly do believe that life does begin at 40. You do find yourself and pack so, so many insecurities away. I think my 40’s up to now have been my very best and happiest years. I am so more secure in who I am a person and I don’t need any validation from anyone else (I am only 4 years in as so yay lol)

I didn’t like getting to 40 either, but I found after 40 isn’t so bad. To some extent numbers are an illusion – we should stop counting! I know what you mean about the years though, it is a little alarming if given too much thought, especially when pictures start fading! Take lots of new ones, enjoy those, enjoy now! π

Yes if it wasn’t for that number I’m sure I wouldn’t be alarmed! Most people seem to agree it isn’t actually as bad as it seems so I’m trying to be more positive π
