I was considering what I might post on the topic of curves for the Lens-Artists Challenge #28 and thought about some curvy frilly fungi I saw growing on a tree back in the autumn. Being me, I had to figure out what kind of fungus it was before I could blog about it! It has taken me a while, but I have identified it as Split Gill (Schizophyllum commune). It is similar in some ways to bracket fungi, but has a different texture, so I was confused by it at first. Underneath I would have seen the split gills that give its common name, but unfortunately I had only taken photos of the upper surface.
Anyway, here’s the curvy, frilly, fan-shaped Schizophyllum commune:
