On the Hook, Tunisian and rainbows

I’ve been doing some more work on the Diamonds not Pearls Tunisian crochet jumper recently, and I’m really making progress now. I have finished the body and one arm!

I am excited to get to wearing this, but even though it’s not far to go to get the crochet part done, there are a lot of ends in there to sort out first!

This month’s Inside Crochet magazine arrived at the beginning of this week, and it is rainbow themed and full of lovely things and cute free gifts! I decided I would try making the fabulous rainbow socks. I went for the specified yarn as I wanted to get the same effect as in the picture. It was quite expensive, but as it was just one ball it was ok. I bought it from Love Crafts. It’s Schachenmayr Regia Pairfect, a 4-ply yarn specifically intended to make one pair of socks. It has a clever system to help you start each sock at the same point in the colour cycle so they’ll match. So fingers crossed I will actually end up with 2 socks, and they’ll match! Last time I tried to make socks I gave up after the first sock as the pattern I was using was so confusing! The pattern in Inside Crochet is much better and I haven’t got stuck at all yet. Today I will be moving on to the gusset section.

The sock pattern is called ‘Dancing Toes’ and it’s designed by Anna Nikipirowicz. I’m really enjoying it 🙂

Recently I had a go at a Tunisian crochet earwarmer from a pattern by the Crochet Sanctuary. I wasn’t quite sure what I was doing to start with as it uses Tunisian knit stitch, rather than the simple stitch that I’ve been using in the Diamonds not Pearls jumper. Once I got into the rhythm of it, it was ok. Probably not the best choice of yarn, with quite long colour changes, but it was the nearest bit of aran yarn in my stash so it was good enough. It was the same yarn used to make the jumper I’m wearing in the picture! The pattern has a twist at the end so you get the cross-over look at the top.

Not sure I’m going to actually wear it anywhere, as I have my rainbow woolly hat to keep me warm, and I kind of feel like I look like a 50s housewife!
