Golden

The sun seems to have left us for now, and days are quite grey and damp, and I am back at work. But I have memories of beautiful flowers from Compton Acres to cheer me up. These golden yellow flowers make a beautiful splash of colour and we even spotted a tiny caterpillar on oneContinue reading “Golden”

Weekly Photo Challenge: Time

Time can seem endless, and yet pass so swiftly at the same time. Some creatures’ lives are so short and yet so much changes during the time they live. This is a caterpillar of the Drinker Moth, spotted in the garden in January: It’s hard to believe that after some time passes it becomes thisContinue reading “Weekly Photo Challenge: Time”

Grids?

Ok, so what is a grid really? One definition says: a network of lines that cross each other to form a series of squares or rectangles. If you just take the first part, I have plenty of photos… A network of lines that cross each other … How about criss-crossing branches with a cute squirrelContinue reading “Grids?”

The very small snail and the very big caterpillar

Once upon a time there was a very small snail. The very small snail was lonely, just sliding around looking for a friend. Then one day he had a terrible shock. A very big caterpillar appeared. He looked so big and scary so the very small snail hid inside his shell. But the very bigContinue reading “The very small snail and the very big caterpillar”

Tiny Landscapes

Just because I usually take macro shots, it doesn’t mean I can’t do landscapes … I just do them on a small scale! Photos can have foreground and background interest like this one… A tiny caterpillar munching on leaf giving foreground interest and in the background we have ‘rolling hills’ of reddish gold due toContinue reading “Tiny Landscapes”

First Caterpillar and more

Yesterday we had a brief walk before dinner in the sunshine. I spotted a couple of clumps of Forget-me-nots, and noticed they seem quite different from eachother, despite being recognisably Forget-me-nots. I’m wondering if perhaps one is a garden variety and the other is a wild one. The leaves are really coming along on theContinue reading “First Caterpillar and more”

Punk Caterpillar

While walking round the village at the weekend, Bruce spotted this caterpillar on a small tree near the pond. I’ve never seen a caterpillar like this before! A very strange punk hairstyle! Being so distinctive made him fairly easy to identify and it turns out he’s a Pale Tussock Moth caterpillar. Another new discovery –Continue reading “Punk Caterpillar”

Pottering in the Garden

I managed to finish work a little early today so had a quick look around the garden to see what was going on… I was pleased to see that my little Lavender bush is flowering and had a bee visiting: The Buff-Tip Moth caterpillars have grown loads since the last time I photographed them: AndContinue reading “Pottering in the Garden”
