Stardust Cardigan

I’ve recently finished a crochet project, so I thought I’d share it here.

This is where it all began on 29th December when I started to crochet the Kamila Fitted Cardigan with my lovely new Scheepjes Stardust yarn that my Mum gave me for Christmas.

After 17 days I’d finished the body. This pattern is great as there are no seams to sew! I started at the neck and then crocheted downwards all round the cardigan.

At 23 days, I’d added buttons and one sleeve. The sleeves are continued on from where I left off in the previous picture – just picking up the stitches around, rather than needing to sew anything together.

Then on Wednesday evening this week, 27 days after I started, I got to the end of the 2nd sleeve! This may be a record for me – a project finished in under a month … and actually finished, rather then me getting distracted by something new!

I’m feeling rather proud and I love the yarn so much!

Next thing I’m starting (although there are several things I should finish first) is a Butterfly Shawl using a different Scheepjes Stardust yarn which has colour changes through it. I’ll tell you more about that when there’s something to see!

If you’re interested in my crochet, or what equipment I used, there are some pages on my blog here.

Sophie Cushion

I promised you a ‘Sophie’ update… (excuse the photo quality on some of these!)

Last time you saw her, she looked like this:10383817_10152592661586324_5081707415181979319_o

Then some more rounds were added and she became square and cushion-sized:

So next I had to get a cushion pad, and think about what I was going to do with the back of the cushion. I decided to go with something fairly simple, and quite a contrast, making the cushion reversible depending on mood or occasion.

The back in progress:

And finally when I finished the back I stitched it all together and made my Sophie Cushion!

a new adventure

only 10 minutes
surely
since your birth
accompanied by Norah Jones
come away with me
and the wonder
of a baby girl
(convinced you’d be a boy)
and now
tall and strong
beautiful
long-haired
horse-mad
entirely yourself
and proud to be so
taking changes in your stride
understanding
past your years
now laying down to sleep
before a new phase begins
with the morning
new uniform
new school
new friends to make
(old ones to keep)
a little nervous
but excited
for this new adventure
and your mother
your silly old mother
is just about to burst with pride

fourteen

1670_44551731323_9342_nit has been fourteen years
since I held your tiny body
in my arms for the first time
woozy and exhausted I sat
staring at you in wonder
my son, my first born child
all tall and gangly now
you soon will tower over
your embarrassing mother
who sometimes makes you cringe
yet I have learnt the complex rules
of teenage hugging bans
which fortunately only apply
when in a public place
those fourteen years have changed you
from sweet soft baby into
smart, funny, sensitive teen
of whom I am proud
and still sometimes
I sit and stare in wonder
at your not so tiny self
in amazement at what was created
back then all those years ago

For my son who is away at his dad’s at the moment – this is the first year ever when I have not been with one of my children on their birthday. Though I know he’s fine and happy, it is a very strange feeling for me to not be with him on this day
